Hello everyone!
Now that the stardust has settled after that beautiful Dance of the Cosmos, summer is upon us! I hope that you are enjoying all that our lovely area has to offer this season and I look forward to seeing you in the fall!
Best Wishes,

May 30, 2008

Hello!
This week has been buzzing with outdoor activity as the weather has finally turned into spring! We have been checking the gardens for new growth, watching the iris try to show themselves, and smelling the lilacs that one of our friends brought to the classroom to share.

Outdoors this week we have also been exploring the "big kid" climber on the primary playground with those students who are soon moving to the primary wing. The slide is so much taller and the corkscrew is such fun to maneuver! There is a bigger sandbox and a tetherball to bat around. The older toddlers are very excited, and very ready, for the new challenges that are awaiting them!

Next week on Friday we will have our annual Dance of the Cosmos and all school picnic. Pick up time for the toddlers that day is 10:30 a.m. From there, you are welcome to join us on the soccer field to join in the Dance as Stardust, some of the smallest particles in the universe. The all-school picnic will follow; a lovely traditions that draw the school year to a close. We hope to see you there. If your child does not regularly come to school on Fridays, he/she is welcome to join us. You can drop your child off at 8:30 car line and then pick up at 10:30 with the rest of the children. Please let me know if you'd like to join us...we'd love to have you!

Warmly,
Hillary

Hello!
Well...three strikes and you're out, I hear! As much as the toddler picnic would have been fun, we have drawn the conclusion that it is too close to the All School Picnic and we will just have to pass on the Spring Social this year! From the small survey that I took, it sounds like this is the majority consensus!
This week we have been busy doing a lot of spring cleaning, building with new blocks and dancing to old favorites! We made quesadillas that dripped with cheese and sliced apples to go with them!
One of the most exciting things that has been going on involves the Extended Day students...they have been visiting our class all week to read to the toddlers, and WOW! do the children love that!

Enjoy your weekend,
Hillary

May 15, 2008

Hello!
If you've been hanging around the toddler wing this week, you may have smelled something delicious! Maple syrup, butter...PANCAKES! They certainly were a hit with everyone...it's a good thing we made a double batch!

The weather fizzled out on us once again this week, but we'll try to have our picnic again next Wednesday at 5:30, same place, Elmwood Township Park on Cherry Bend Road! I hope that you can make it!

As I get the chance to sit back and observe your children, it is amazing to think about how much they have grown over the course of this year! The classroom is buzzing with energy these days, and each child has such purpose with his/her actions. From making snack (even flipping the pancakes!) to noticing when they have spilled, getting a cloth and wiping it up, to asking for help if they need it, and singing along with all of the songs at group (with gusto!), your children have gained such a tremendous sense of independence and self-confidence within the classroom setting! What an incredible thing to watch.

Enjoy your weekend,
Hillary

Hello everyone!

We have been listening to "Peter and the Wolf" in the classroom this week, discovering the different instruments that tell us when one of the characters in the story is doing something. So far, we know that the flute is the bird that flutters around in the trees, and that the violins tell us when Peter is a part of the story.

The picnic this week (on again, off again, on again...) will be rescheduled for NEXT Wednesday at 5:30 at Elmwood township park. I am sure that it will be sunny and beautiful out; much better than what we would have been dealing with this week!

As the weather warms up, some of our classroom work is heading outside to the patio. We have taken the easel out there for a good thorough scrubbing, and we will be hammering as well as washing windows outdoors on these bright, sunny mornings!

Enjoy your weekend,
Hillary

Hello everyone!

Signs of spring are all around, as we have been finding outdoors in the last few weeks. But this week we got to celebrate spring indoors as well, as we traveled together to The Barn to watch the beautiful Maypole celebration. The music and the ribbons, the flowers and all the children dancing were all a part of that lovely tradition, and the toddlers thought it was wonderful!

In the classroom, we have been doing a lot of color mixing lately, watching the water turn from yellow and blue to green, or from red and yellow to orange. The children all have such excitement and wonder on their faces as we experiment with colors in so many ways.

Keep your eye out for the flyer coming home that will give details about next week's picnic! We are looking forward to celebrating spring all together on Wednesday the 7th, with a rain date of the 14th posted "just in case!"

Enjoy your weekend,
Hillary

April 24, 2008

Hello everyone!

This week has been a busy one; there just isn't enough time to explore all of the new things outdoors as springtime gets underway! We had our first picnic in the Rose Garden this week on a nice warm morning. The birds were singing all around us as we ate our snack amid the sprouting flowers on the east side of the property.

We also planted a flowering crab apple tree on our playground this week, which was very exciting. Some of the children chose to watch as the dig, dig, digging took place; others joined in, shifting the dirt from the BIG wheelbarrow in the hole where our tree was planted.

Our baking project this week included Birthday Muffins once again, much to the excitement of everyone! We haven't had them for a number of weeks now, which made the final product taste that much sweeter as we sang to our birthday kids!

Enjoy your week,
Hillary

April 17, 2008

Hello!

This week began with a big project! We built a new Radio Flyer bike in class on Monday, and have been taking turns riding it all week! It was a lot of fun...we used a hammer, a screwdriver (two different kinds!) and a wrench. There were nuts and bolts, screws, and washers that all came together to build that beautiful new bike!

Scrambled eggs were a big hit at snack time, together with fruit and crackers it seemed like a little "midweek brunch!" We are so careful around that hot griddle while things are cooking; the most fun was watching the butter sizzle and pop before pouring the eggs on top.

We have a new puzzle on our shelf. It is called an "arcobaleno" (which means "rainbow" in Italian) and is quite an intricate piece of work. Each child that has used the arcobaleno has come up with his/her own way of building it, and it is so interesting to watch what is created!

Enjoy your week,
Hillary

April 10, 2008
Hello everyone!

We are so busy this week at school, both inside and outside!

Indoors we have been playing the trumpet and the flute, working with playdough and running cars down the car garage ramps. It has been quite a test of patience for the children to wait for a turn with the new materials! But they are rising to the occasion and finding out that if they wait just a little while, it will be their turn soon!

Outdoors we have some new trucks in the sandbox and tiny little pails and shovels, all of which are well used as the sandbox has only recently be "re-opened" after the snow. We are taking walks through the gardens, picking up trash that has blown into the yard over the course of the winter, watching the earth open up to let the iris, the tulips, and the daffodils poke themselves out to get ready to bloom. We are keeping an eye on all of the bluebird boxes to be sure to keep the house sparrows from building their nests before the bluebirds arrive!

Please keep the date of May 7 open on your calendars! We will have our spring picnic that evening...details will be coming soon!

Enjoy your weekend!

March 27, 2008

Hello!

Spring is finding its way into the classroom, little by little! We have tricked some cherry branches into bloom by putting them in water and refilling the water a little bit each day! The beautiful white blossoms are a sure sign of springtime!
We are planting beans to grow outdoors as soon as the earth thaws out just a little bit more! We put them into the dirt and water them, not too much, and watch for the sprouts to form. Brightly colored playdough and songs about collecting bottle caps and shells are just a couple more of the ways that we are looking forward to the next season! It's right around the corner!

Enjoy your week,
Hillary

March 20, 2008

Hello!
This week began with a great Irish jig, one that we have been practicing just for St. Patrick's Day! "Down the Street," the kids request at group, and we all stand off, pair off into partners, hold hands and dance to the tune...a-rig-a-ma-jig and away we go...

We have been slicing and eating big, beautiful oranges that taste like sunshine! Snack is always a favorite part of the day, and at this point in the year, all of the children play an integral part in the preparation, the setting of the table, and the clean up. Some of the older children have begun serving the younger ones, taking care to use the tongs and the small pitcher. What a beautiful way to watch the "mentors" of the group take care of the others!

Last November/December, we took your pictures and stories about Thanksgiving and made pages for the children to look at. I would like to add to those pages and include pictures and stories from the springtime...I know it's coming! Whether you are going on a family trip or staying home to watch the flowers poke out of the ground, I would love to add your stories to our bunch. Please send them to me at hillary@traversechildrenshouse.org and we'll share them with the children!

Enjoy your weekend,
Hillary

March 13, 2008

Hello!
Isn't it wonderful to see so much sunshine?! The kids have been watching the snow slowly melt on the playground...today someone was sad because the snow wouldn't "pack" right to make a snowman...Someone else noticed how warm it feels when the sun comes out from behind the clouds! It won't be long before we are watching the bulbs poke out from beneath the earth!

Inside we have been looking at different seeds and noticing the differences between them. The pumpkin seeds are so much bigger than the lavender; the rutabaga is tiny and the carrot seeds look very different from the others!

We made grilled cheese and tomato soup once again to bring some warmth to that damp chill in the air...some of the children are dippers, some are not! But grilled cheese is most definitely a favorite within our classroom!

Thank you so much for coming and bringing such great input to the developmental meetings that Mary and I held this week! Many of you have given great feedback after attending, we sure appreciate that! We look forward to continuing the conversations that were started, more on an individual level than in the group format, and hope that each of you know that our doors are open! I'd love to meet with you again, just let me know what your schedules are and we'll make time to get together for follow up conversations!

Best Wishes,
Hillary

February 28, 2008

The sun is shining and there are new bird songs that we can hear on the playground! Spring must be just around the corner...

This week we went to The Barn to watch our friends in Upper Elementary perform on the stage. We watch nursery rhymes, stories by Dr. Seuss, and an energetic version of the alphabet! Sometimes there were songs, accompanied by Reed Zitting on the guitar, and sometimes there were scenes that were just plain silly! The toddlers were mesmerized! They thoroughly enjoyed watching as the Upper El Theatre Troupe put on yet another wonderful show.

I hope that you all can make it this Saturday to The Children's Museum! The room parents have planned a Toddler Outing on Saturday from 10am until noon, and the cost is only $3 per person, free if you are under 2 years old!

We have our Developmental meetings coming up in just a couple of weeks, so mark the dates on your calendar (March 11 and 12) and watch for a flyer coming home that will let you know which meeting you should be attending!

Enjoy your weekend!
Hillary

February 21, 2008

Hello everyone!
This week we are baking birthday muffins once again...those yummy blueberry and banana muffins that the kids love to stir, bake, and eat! We also made pink grapefruit juice this week, rather than the usual freshly squeezed orange juice. What a treat!

We are enjoying reading a BIG version of Tana Hoban's "Look! Look! Look!" during our group times. The book has many surprises and reminds us all of different times of the year.

More excitement this week; we measured our amaryllis to be 16"! It just keeps getting taller and taller each day!

I hope that some of you are able to join us next week for the guided observation day! I will be in the parent observation room from 9-10am on Wednesday to watch your child growing and changing with you!

Warmly,
Hillary

February 14, 2008

Hello everyone!toddlertp2.jpg

A few of you have had some questions this week, wondering where all the sand is coming from!! We had added 50 lbs. of sand to the sand and water table recently, and the excitement has yet to dwindle! We have been digging, pouring, scooping, and just generally having a good time with the "sand box" that is in the corner of our room.

This week in Toddler South we are making breakfast! Scrambled eggs, fried eggs, cereal, English muffins with jam, and orange juice! What a delicious and filling way to spend the morning! The kids love to crack the eggs, beat them and push them around on the skillet to make scrambled eggs!

Our music this week has been highlighted with some lovely songs from France. "Bonjour, mon ami!" A few of the children have so many requests for songs during group that we wind up following their lead and THEN incorporating the new stuff, making a very long group music time each day! Very fun!

Enjoy your long weekend and for those of you with "older" toddlers, I look forward to seeing you at the Primary meeting next Thursday!

Warmly,
Hillary

February 7, 2008

Hello everyone!
The children have been working hard in the classroom this week! Whether on puzzles, painting, building the train, reading books, or studying the differences in all of the little airplanes and jets on our object shelf (bi-planes, jets, fighter planes, blimps, hot air balloons, seaplanes, even a parachuting daredevil!), each child has found an individual routine that he/she follows each day. It is an incredible thing to watch!

This week we celebrated the Chinese New Year. We headed to The Barn to watch the Extended Day students perform the Dragon Dance, one of my favorite traditions at the school! In the classroom, we made stir-fry vegetables with tofu for snack, and even tried chopsticks!

Next week we will celebrate Valentine's Day in the classroom. While we don't trade valentine cards with one another, we do have special projects and activities available on the shelves for the children to take part in. Our snack will be a special one, and we will spend time at group talking about the people that we love in our lives!

Enjoy your weekend,
Hillary

January 31, 2008

Hello everyone!
We are having an exciting week in Toddler South! Many of the children have been putting together puzzles of varying difficulties. Some of our puzzles have fish, some have jungle animals; one of the favorites is the Alphabet Train.

Small groups of children have been venturing outside the classroom to visit the elementary wing, where they can visit Andrea, the tortoise and Pucci, the zebra finch, in Patty's upper elementary class. Darwin, the guinea pig in Jill's room is another favorite animal to visit. And if we bring a book or two with us on our journey, we are sure to find an elementary student who is eager to read to us!

With the intense drop in temperature outdoors this week, we decided to make some good old wintertime comfort food for snack! We got out our new griddle again and made some grilled cheese sandwiches, complete with tomato soup to dip with!

I hope that you can make it to the wine party at Spider Lake Retreat on Valentine's Day! It is always such fun, and kicks off the Gala that is scheduled for April 25th!

Enjoy your weekend!

January 24, 2008

Hi there!
Brrrrr! We have been in The Barn a lot this week! The wind chill was just a little too low for going out; we are looking forward to adding a few degrees to the thermometer next week! In The Barn we have been playing volleyball, jumping, singing, and dancing to the tunes that Steve has in his CD player ("Tony Chestnut" is a favorite!)

We planted our amaryllis this week and are hoping to watch it grow and bloom as the time passes. Plant care is a favorite activity, whether we are watering, polishing the leaves, clipping and deadheading, or just noticing the beauty and differences in each of the plants in our environment.

Also in the classroom this week, we baked little "personal" pizzas with English muffins, pizza sauce, and mozzarella cheese. They were quite a hit! The children participate more and more with each new cooking project. We have so much fun exploring new foods and creating dishes together!

Enjoy your weekend!
Hillary

January 17, 2008

Hello everyone!
This snowy week was begun with fun in The Barn as we took the children down for Music on Mondays. Marc Alderman brought his band to the stage and they performed some great music for us! They played some jazz, a little funk, a Turkish drum duet, and some original compositions. The kids LOVED it, and it set a great tone for group the rest of the week! Lots of drumming and dancing each morning to different songs from around the world!

Our "animal shelf" is newly featuring 10 different African animals this week, which is a great language lesson with the children. Together we learn about the different animals and where they live, what they like to eat, and what time of day it is that they like to sleep!

This week we made more crepes on our new griddle. They were such a hit last time that we thought we'd try them again, this time with raspberry jam on the inside...yum!

Enjoy your weekend!

January 10, 2008

Hello everyone and welcome back!
I had so much fun at the Toddler party on Tuesday evening! The kids were so excited to be with all of their friends AND their parents, too! It doesn't get much better than that!! And the food was delicious!

The classroom is such a beautiful place; everyone is so thrilled to get back to the work they love after the long break. This week we made quesadillas on our new griddle...some of the children dipped in the salsa, some opted out!

I hope you'll be able to join me in the Parent Observation room on Friday, January 25th from 9-10 a.m. to watch your growing, changing child with me and chat about the life and livelihood of Toddlers!

Enjoy your weekend,
Hillary

December 13, 2007

Hello everyone!
The week began with a beautiful flute concert in The Barn, where we watched the Santa Lucia processional and listened to the flute choir perform some lovely music (though Pachelbel's Canon put a little one to sleep partway through...) It was exciting to watch the oldest girl enter with a crown of candles and a lovely white dress with a red sash.Water table full of snow

In the classroom, we decided to bring the winter fun indoors and filled our water table with a pile of snow, much to the delight of the children! Little miniature snowmen and big bowls full of snow all melted down into a pool of water by the end of the day!

At the snack table, we continued our celebration of St. Lucia's Day by eating Lussekattor, Lucy's crown, made of a braid of (yum) saffron coffee cake and delicious currants (okay, I used dried cherries...)

I hope you'll find your way to The Festival of Trains at 10 am on Saturday, many friends will be there and it is SUCH fun!

Enjoy your weekend!
Hillary

December 6, 2007

Hello!
We are busy in the classroom this week, spending a lot of time in the coat room working on those big bulky boots, snowpants, and all the rest of the "stuff" that comes along with this chilly winter wind! Thank you for labeling your child's things so well! It makes that transition from the playground into lunch/carline run much more smoothly!

Keep your eye out for a CD that contains many of our favorite group jams, along with a few of the fun songs that we sing together each day. I think that you and your children will enjoy it, and hope that it brings some warmth into your winter season!

When the wind chill drops too low, we have been spending time in the gym with the huge hopper full of balls. Volleyballs, soccer balls, basketballs...the children LOVE to shoot baskets and run, dribbling the ball with their feet as they go! Ask your child about the gym one of these bitter cold days! It sure is a favorite place to go.

Enjoy your weekend,
Hillary

p.s. If you would like to send in a picture/story to add to our book of children, please go ahead! It could take on a winter theme now rather than Thanksgiving...

November 29, 2007

Hello everyone, and welcome back!
From the sounds of it (in your Thanksgiving stories), everyone had a lovely holiday! If you haven't sent along your story to add to our book, please feel free to do so. We are putting it together as they come in, and the kids LOVE them!

The kids have also been enjoying the drums that have been added to our group music time. After receiving a very thoughtful donation to the classroom, 16 new hand drums were purchased and the children have been jamming all week. Native American songs, Rusted Root; you name it! We also have a larger hand drum that is a part of the classroom work, and various children have been playing duets with my flute music (fast songs, slow songs...)

Keep your eye out for the December calendar and the fun events planned before the winter break. Also, mark your calendar for Tuesday, January 8th at 5pm when the entire Toddler Wing will gather in The Barn for a potluck and some fun with friends!

Enjoy your weekend,
Hillary

November 15, 2007

Okay, everyone...I have an assignment for you! Over the extended weekend next week, please take a moment to write a paragraph about your child's Thanksgiving holiday. E-mail it to me, preferably attaching a picture as well, either in word or in the body of the e-mail, and we will put together a book for the classroom during the week following. Any questions? Please contact me if you do! I plan to put together the book on Wednesday, November 28th. It will be a great addition to our classroom library!

Speaking of which, a huge THANK YOU to all that purchased books for the classroom at the Horizon Book Day this past weekend! We have added a great number of fantastic titles to our library, and it is very much appreciated!

If you are not sure what to bring to the Harvest Feast next week, please let me know! You should have received a flyer with the menu items listed. We are all looking forward to our celebration...it is such a lovely time of year!

Enjoy your holiday!
Hillary

November 8, 2007

Hello!
This week has been a busy one! A new friend has joined our class, we have been baking birthday muffins, and singing along with the flute to "The Bear Went Over the Mountain."

Music on Mondays featured chamberToddler - Music On Monday music this week, where some of us went to listen to a violin/piano duet. The BEST part of the event for our toddlers was the interaction with the elementary students, many of whom came to have a child sit on their lap while we listened.

As the weather turns, please remember to send appropriate outdoor gear that is well-labeled. We like to venture outdoors throughout the coldest months, and it is important to be well-protected from the elements!
I hope you'll find your way to the Horizon Book Fair this weekend. It is a great event that benefits the school, the classroom, and your children all at the same time!

Enjoy your weekend,
Hillary

November 1, 2007

Hello everyone!
How could it be November already?! We have spent a lot of time outdoors this week, Pumpkin Fun Dayenjoying the beautiful Halloween weather! I would anticipate the weather turning on a dime one of these days! Be sure that your child's winter clothing is labeled and ready to go!

This week we had Pumpkin Fun day in the classroom, and we painted pumpkins, washed the pumpkins, even scraped out the inside of the pumpkin to make some pumpkin pancakes!

Remember that this Saturday at 9:30 the Great Lakes Children Museum will be open for us! Admission will be $3. Hope to see you there! Next week we will have the all-school family potluck, another great event that will take place at 5:30 on Thursday, in The Barn with Judy Harrison and the band High Impact. And over the weekend, Horizon Books will sponsor a day just for The Children's House...please let me know if you are available to volunteer for an hour or so! If not, be sure to stop in for some early holiday shopping, as 10% of the sales that day will benefit our school!

Enjoy your week,
Hillary

October 25, 2007

Hello everyone!
What a tremendous fall we are having! The leaves are such brilliant colors, and when you spend your days with toddlers, you get to take the time to notice all of the changes happening around us!

In Toddler South we have beenToddlers playing the flute, specifically a song called "Kagome" about a poor little bird that is stuck inside of a bamboo cage. We have new scarves to dance with, carefully and slowly to the tune of Edelweiss from "The Sound of Music."

Next week we will be celebrating Pumpkin Fun Day on the 31st, and would love to have pumpkins to carve, to cook, and to paint! Please let me know if you are able to bring in pumpkins...the more the merrier!

Join me next Tuesday the 30th in the Parent Room for a coffee talk that will incorporate parents from all wings of the school. Some of the things that we discussed in last week's meeting will be on the table, specifically a discussion about siblings. The meeting will take place from 8:45 to 9:45 and I would love to have you there!

Enjoy your week,
Hillary

Hello everyone!  What a busy time in the toddler wing!

Last Saturday was spent at Gallagher's, where we gathered in the chilly wind to see the goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, and to weigh the big pumpkins on the scale! Next month, Katherine, Chris, and Erica have organized a Saturday morning at the Great Lakes Children's Museum. They will be open just for us on November 3rd! Details from the room parents will be coming soon!

The parent meetings that were held in the evenings this week were purposefully structured to meet the needs of infant/toddler parents and have replaced the more formal "conferences" that are held in November. We hope that you found them useful and would love to hear your thoughts in order to ensure that they sufficiently answer the questions that you may have as your child grows and changes so very quickly!

In the classroom this week, we cooked pancakes on the big griddle, then topped them with the delicious syrup that was brought in to share! We listened to new CD's, some having come from different families sharing their favorites!

Enjoy the rest of your week,
Hillary

October 11, 2007

Hello everyone!
The classroom is settling into a quiet, purposeful routine these days! After six weeks or so in session, each child has chosen favorite activities and has also begun to understand the routine on a deeper level. Each child now knows what is coming up next in the classroom and plunges with enthusiasm into the next part of the day. One of the most anticipated parts of the morning is certainly group music time, and I would love to have you share your favorite CD with the classroom! The shakers, rhythm sticks, and the drums are all fun to jam together with, and some of our best music has come from family suggestion (anything from Simon and Garfunkel to "Free to Be, You and Me" to African Playground). We are always looking for new ideas!

We are hoping to have a good crowd for Gallagher's this Saturday morning! And save the date of November 3rd! The room parents have organized a trip to the Children's Museum that is just for our group! Look for more information soon...

Special thanks to those who have brought in items to share with our baking projects! The muffins are delicious and the pancakes are coming right up (we postponed them for another birthday celebration)!

Enjoy your week,
Hillary

October 4, 2007

Hello everyone!
Sorry I missed you at Bryant Park on Saturday, but it sounds like it was a lot of fun for those who went! I am looking forward to the outings in October and hoping the weather stays this beautiful!

This week in the classroom we have been busy baking birthday muffins! Not just one birthday, but two this week and so much fun celebrating! Many thanks to those who brought in the ingredients for our cooking projects! Next week we plan to make pancakes...anyone who would like to bring some REAL maple syrup, please let me know! Additionally, our ongoing orange juicing project will begin. If you'd like to bring in a bag or two for our fresh squeezed orange juice, that would be wonderful!

At group music time, we have been incorporating a new Spanish song. Rojo, azul, verde, amarillo, blanco, and morado are all colors that we have been singing about each day!

Enjoy your week,
Hillary

September 27, 2007

Hello everyone!
Fall is in the air and we are watching the leaves begin to change when we head outdoors with our coats on! We watch the clouds roll in, some of them bringing rain and some of them just drifting on by...

This week we made scrambled eggs and toast for our cooking project. The children were thrilled to crack the eggs and add the milk and cheese. Only one egg ended up in a lap, and, even though it was a little messy, it was quite impressive to witness!

The fall social was so much fun; the kids really enjoyed themselves and each other! Keep your eye out for the calendar of October events...it is a full one! You can always call me or Chris and Katherine DeGood with questions or thoughts about any of the planned events!

Enjoy your week,
Hillary

September 20, 2007

Hello Parents!Lauren pumpkin painting
We have really settled well into the routine of the school year! Your children are busy working on things like pumpkin washing, window cleaning, and building block towers. One of the hot commodities in the classroom right now is the cordless phone that is placed in there for their use. Many calls have been placed to you each day as they hold the phone between their shoulder and ear (perhaps while trying to get dinner ready?!)

This week we began our "cooking series" with cheese quesadillas made on the griddle with a tiny spatula and lots of guidance! We intend to create many different types of bread and muffins in the coming weeks, and if anyone would like to donate bags of whole wheat flour, a dozen eggs or two, a bag of sugar, baking soda, baking powder, Smart Balance Omega oil, and a set of measuring cups and measuring spoons, these are all items that will be greatly appreciated and well-used!

Remember to RSVP to the front desk if you plan to attend the October 4 Parent Education series with Janis Keyser. This evening will be very applicable to our age group, and Janis has a lot of tremendous ideas with regards to handling everyday situations. I would like to encourage you to join us that evening, if you are free!

Warmly,
Hillary

September 13, 2007

Toddler South has really settled in quite easily to the new school year. The routines are in place, the worried faces have transformed into smiles, and even the youngest children are putting their snack dishes away in the proper place when group snack is over!

Each child in the classroom is busy exploring all of the activities that are available; some favorites include: vacuuming, water pouring, building the train set, and making "tie-dyes" with droppers full of color and coffee filters.

Remember that this Friday, September 14, Erica Chadwick has organized a "Mom's Night Out!" Meet at Minerva's at 6:30 pm and enjoy some adult time with the parents of your child's new friends!

Please feel free to contact me at any time! And thanks for sharing your children with us!

Sincerely,
Hillary
