Young Explorers:
Primary: 3-6 years
Young Explorers chart their course throughout the day under the guidance of our Outdoor Educator Amalia Fernand and trained Montessori teacher Melissa Cole.

Amalia's Nature Camp uses weekly themes to guide your child's exploration of a variety of environmental topics. Children create arts and crafts, explore the 8 ½ acre campus on nature walks, get an "up-close" look at plants and critters and go on scavenger hunts! Of course, songs, stories and games are a regular part of their days at camp too. Campers may attend Amalia's Nature Camp on a weekly basis or for the whole summer. Half and full day schedules are available.

EXPLORERS' CLUB - 5 and 6 year olds
Older campers in Amalia's Nature Camp are invited to join Explorers' Club. Club activities include advanced science experiments, environmental studies, personalized research projects, and weekly presentations. Long term studies are available to Explorers' Club campers who are here for the entire summer.

Melissa directs our All Year Montessori Classroom, expanding it to include interactive gardens, outdoor water play, picnics, science experiments, live chickens and good ol' summer time fun and relaxation. The children plant, tend, harvest and cook the produce they grow for a hands-on experience with food production. This class is comprised of students enrolled in Melissa's classroom on a year-round schedule and contract.

Spanish conversation groups are offered twice a week for children enrolled in both programs.

Young Explorers Camp Directors:

MELISSA COLE is AMI Montessori Primary certified and has taught at TCH since 2004. Her creativity extends from the classroom to the outdoors and is evident in the children's gardens and animal habitats she develops with the children. Melissa earned a B.A. in Graphic Design from Western Michigan University.

AMALIA FERNAND has a M.S. in Ecological Leadership and Education from the Audubon Expedition Institute of Lesley University, and a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from Eckerd College. Amalia has educated children of all ages at schools and parks in the U.S. and abroad. This is her forth summer teaching Nature Camps at TCH.
