The Children’s House expanded to include 7th and 8th grade in 2014. In 2022, this growing young adolescent program became known as Compass Montessori Junior High and moved to its own campus in downtown Traverse City. Compass Montessori Junior High enrolls up to thirty 7th and 8th grade students at its 6,000 square foot Park Street Campus.
In November 2023, after a seven-month renovation of our Park Street Campus in downtown Traverse City, 7th and 8th-year students moved into a reimagined environment, distinctly prepared to support them and our Montessori approach to learning. The new design maximizes the use of natural light and includes a beautiful library, a large gathering space, small workspaces to promote collaboration, a maker space, a computer lab, a kitchen, cafe seating, and lots of cabinets and shelving to keep everything tidy and beautiful.
