Bright Futures Gala: Beyond Bright!
40th Anniversary Celebration and Fundraiser
Friday, May 9 from 6-10 p.m. at The Park Place
Attire: Black tie optional (Want to dress on theme? Be bright!)
This year we are celebrating our 40th Anniversary, and we want you, our alumni families (21+) to come and celebrate with us. We have moved to a larger venue to accommodate the biggest party we've ever thrown. Join us as we reminisce and dream about the future and seal a time capsule for the next 40 years!
Time Capsule!
If you can't attend the gala, you can still submit something to the time capsule which will be opened in the 2064-65 school year. You can mail your small memento: note, photo, etc. to The Children's House, Arielle Sika, 5363 N. Long Lake Rd., Traverse City, MI 49685. Be sure it arrives by May 8!
Still friends after carline? Show us the friendships that stuck.
You hear it all the time: parents make friends because their kids are friends. And once the kids grow up and move on, the parents do, too. But that's not what happens here.
Alumni parent, Bob Butz, writes: "Norm Licht and I had children in the same classes from Toddler on up. But it turned out we also had bird dogs and a love of being outside. Our kids are now off to college and jobs, but almost 20 years later we're still friends."
We're collecting stories and pictures like this—the kind that start in carline or class functions and stick. If you met someone here and that friendship went the distance, share your story here. Doesn’t have to be fancy. Just real.

From the BlogIncorporating Diversity into the Montessori Classroomby Megan FellowsMaria Montessori was the ultimate advocate for peace education. She created a method that allowed all children to access their full potential, regardless of ability, background or learning style. She was a champion for diversity and knew our differences added opportunities, not setbacks. However, claiming that Montessori schools celebrate diversity by default of Montessori’s life work is a mistake. Classrooms that appropriately celebrate diversity require intentional teachers and purposefully tailored instruction. These are the top three ways we do this at The Children’s House... |

Classroom HighlightsCompass Junior HighTravel: Etiquette, discomfort, and growthEach “going out” presents new challenges, new opportunities, and new worlds. The Pigeon Key trip is our first flight of the year, which also qualifies as our first public transportation of the year. Students are faced with packing restrictions, travel etiquette, and the general “inconveniences” of being in a crowd. All the worries start to bubble to top of mind- “I want to share a room with my friends. I don’t want to sit between strangers. What if I don’t like the food?” With the unknown, or the uncomfortable comes opportunity for personal growth. |
